Atlantis, The Palm welcomed the beginning of the DP World Tour Championship in signature style last week, with a spectacular golf stunt off the balcony of the luxurious Royal Bridge Suite.

Having the distinction of being the Official Hotel of the DP World Tour Championship, Atlantis partnered with tournament organisers, DP World, Nakheel, and The European Tour to create the DP World Tour Championship Atlantis Golf Challenge.

The challenge invited five of the world’s top pros to participate, including Race to Dubai winner Henrik Stenson, reigning U.S. Open winner Justin Rose, Martin Kaymer, David Howell, and Lee Westwood.

The event was officiated by none other than golfing legend Ian Poulter, who graciously took time out of his schedule to help find a winner.

Each person was required to hit 10 shots from the balcony of Atlantis, The Palm’s opulent Royal Bridge Suite onto a floating green pontoon anchored in the Arabian Gulf. With a 235-yard (210 metres) distance beyond the beach, reaching the 9m x 5m green would prove quite the test for these pros. See for yourself how it all played out:

After some tense competition, first prize went to Lee Westwood. He finished just four feet away from the flag on the floating green.

To the winner goes the spoils, and this contest was certainly no exception. Westwood received a luxury package as winner, which included a phenomenal 5 night stay in one of the breathtaking Atlantis Underwater Suites, a lavish dinner at the newly launched Chinese restaurant, YUAN, and the world-renowned Nobu Japanese restaurant. In addition, Westwood won an Ultimate Dive experience, a once in a lifetime opportunity to get up close and personal with the marine life in the amazing 11 million litre Ambassador Lagoon was also offered as part of the unique offer.

Westwood accepted the winner’s trophy from Ravini Perera, Senior Vice President, Sales, Marketing and PR at Atlantis, The Palm, and Feras Dahlan, Government Relations, DP World. Check out the Race To Atlantis Facebook page for more information, as well as the latest updates.
