From Astronaut to Aquanaut!  We were so excited to have Apollo 11 legend Buzz Aldrin take a small leap for mankind into our The Ambassador Lagoon at Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai today.   The scuba loving astronaut joined us to help launch our exciting, new diving programmes and it was great to have him at Atlantis Mission Control!Buzz Aldrin at Atlantis new diving programs

The extremely fit, 84 years old,  spent a lot of time exploring the ruins of the lost city of Atlantis and enjoyed performing some playful and impromptu anti-gravity antics to the Atlantis guests at the glass observation window, such as spinning around, making faces and swimming upside down.

Buzz was the second person to walk on the moon. He was the lunar module pilot on Apollo 11, the first manned lunar landing in history and set foot on the Moon on July 21, 1969, following mission commander Neil Armstrong. He is also a retired colonel in the United States Air Force (USAF) and a USAF Command Pilot / Astronaut, and hero of many and these days loves nothing more than spending time underwater.

Not everyone gets to walk on the moon, but if you would like to experience what zero gravity feels like, then we invite you to come and try one of the fun new diving programmes like Buzz did and come face to face with sharks, rays and 65,000 fish!   The new diving activities include Atlantis Dive Discovery for beginners;  Atlantis Dive Explorer a 30-minute dive for certified divers and the exclusive Royal Dive for those who want a VIP experience and the entire majestic Ambassador Lagoon to themselves.   If you don’t have a diving license, never fear!  We also offer snorkeling for anyone over the age of 6!  To book visit www.atlantisthepalm.com
