Home to more than 65,000 marine animals cared for by a dedicated team of animal care professionals and with an onsite veterinary team showcasing our commitment to maintaining and surpassing the highest standards of animal welfare for all animals under our care, Atlantis has been delivering meaningful and memorable programmes to educate and empower local employees and resort guests for over a decade. Below are some of our sustainability initiatives undertaken at the resort:

EarthCheck Bronze Benchmarked Certification

We received the Bronze Benchmarked status from EarthCheck in 2019 in recognition of our social and environmental commitment. EarthCheck is the world’s leading scientific benchmarking certification and advisory group for travel and tourism. At Atlantis Dubai, we have implemented an Environmental Management System that meets the requirements of the EarthCheck Company Standard and have been continually increasing our sustainability efforts aimed at improving the resort’s operations and raising community awareness towards marine conservation.

The resort team strives towards minimising our environmental footprint by implementing sustainable initiatives and action plans to reduce the use of energy and water, effectively manage waste, improve procurement and supply chain practices as well as to protect an array of wildlife and marine life.

We drive change locally through employing and empowering local employees, procuring sustainable products and services locally in accordance with Fair Trade principles, and protecting marine life in and around the UAE.

International Environmental Awareness Calendar

We increase environmental awareness and encourage more people to focus on initiatives to conserve marine biodiversity by celebrating local and international days or weeks that are marked as occasions that promote environmental awareness. Our celebrations range from engaging our colleagues, our hotel guests, and the local community with a variety of activities and engagements.

Accreditation from the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA)

Atlantis Dubai is the first destination in the Middle East to be granted accreditation by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA). The global standard for animal care, AZA is an independent accrediting organisation for the best zoos and aquariums in the world, and when you visit an AZA-accredited facility you can be sure it upholds the highest possible standards for conservation efforts, animal care and welfare.

Marine sustainability initiatives and efforts

We are committed to giving back to the environment and one of the ways in which we do this is through our shark and ray breeding programmes. Over the last 2 years, we have come together with Dubai Municipality and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, to release several young sharks and rays into the protected at Jebel Ali Wildlife Sanctuary in Dubai. At the same time we also take the opportunity to conduct beach cleans, mangrove planting and community outreach.
